JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Process Engineer role is responsible for development, scale-up and optimization of extraction and manufacturing processes, from development through commercialization, as part of the Technical Services team. The role supports new product development as well as on-boarding new technologies required to meet production demands.
CORE JOB DUTIES
Process Development
Develop robust manufacturing process related to new products
Drive improved extraction and manufacturing yields by investigating alternative equipment and processing parameters
Confirm impact of post-commercial changes in raw materials, equipment, or product formulation
Scale-up existing processes to meet increased demand and improved efficiency
Lead technology transfers between sites related to new manufacturing processes and equipment
Onboard new processes related to licensing of third-party technologies
Partner with Engineering to make modifications to existing equipment in order improve performance or accommodate new products
Design and supervise DOE experiments, manufacturing trials and process validations
Determine appropriate measurements and metrics for process performance
Translate product and process needs into Equipment functional and user requirements
Project Leadership
Participate as a team member in cross-functional new product development teams
Work closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, Extraction, Engineering, and Packaging teams to plan work and resolve issues
Manage projects, set objectives and report on performance of process development to senior leadership
Technical Leadership
Maintain expert knowledge of equipment and processes used in the Cresco network
Participate in due diligence related to licensing technologies or qualifying 3rd party vendors supporting development
Stay abreast of industry trends and new technologies related to cannabis extraction and manufacturing, and make recommendations to leadership
Provide expertise and training to members of the Manufacturing and Technical Services team
Document development work completely and contemporaneously to support patent applications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS
MS or PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, or Pharmacy OR B.S. with relevant industry experience
Experience working in manufacturing in the Cannabis industry preferred, or experience in pharmaceutical, food, or other CPG industry
Proficient in MS Office, Highly Proficient in MS Excel
REPORTING AND AUTHORITY
Reports to Director, Technical Services
Empowered to work directly with site-based resources to resolve issues and make decisions related to technical services
Works directly with vendors to resolve issues
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Increased yield (% w/w) and extraction efficiency
Increased efficiency and productivity (i.e. cost/Kg, Kg/FTE, COGS as % revenue)
Reduced process cycle time
Robust process measures that meet performance requirements of the business
On-time delivery of product and process development
