As a member of the State leadership team, the New Jersey Plant Manager will be responsible for complete oversight of day-to-day operations including coaching and managing the entire processing and manufacturing teams. The Plant Manager works alongside the New Jersey DOO to execute on the overall direction and strategy relative to manufacturing processes and best practices. This position also liaisons with the local leadership team (including Cultivation, Retail, Wholesale, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Quality, and Compliance) at the DOO’s direction to assure effective and efficient operations, an optimum dispensary product mix, proper inventory levels, and seamless logistics for wholesale customers. The Plant Manager will report to the State Director of Operations and work closely with all State and Regional stakeholders and subject matter experts across the company.
The New Jersey Plant Manager will be responsible for directing all activities to ensure Curaleaf NJ delivers high quality products while maintaining the most efficient product cost structure. The Plant Manager is accountable for meeting production demand that supports top line revenue while improving efficiency to bottom line growth. This position is responsible for all day-to-day cGMP operations. The individual is responsible for the continuous quality and process improvements to ensure attainment of operational goals, tactics, and priorities which drive business results with a focus on safety and quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all day-to-day aspects of site operations; execute on an effective schedule, capital equipment maintenance, personnel training, production planning and outputs
Plan and monitor the day-to-day operations to ensure no interruptions in production
Ensure site and State safety programs and initiatives
Review production and scheduling plans to ensure they align with the product demand forecast
Oversight of inventory levels for critical manufacturing components and facilitate the flow of raw and WIP material from cultivation to manufacturing to lab testing to the consumer
Work with the Regional leadership team to facilitate commercialization of new products in the local market
Communicate as needed with State Regulators to ensure compliant State business operations
Lead production and operational management teams ensuring collaboration and cross-departmental efficiencies
Maintain a strong presence in the field to effectively coach and support all Department Heads, Assistant Managers, Supervisors, Leads, and associated team members
Set goals and provide guidance, direction, and performance management for direct report site Department Heads. Ensure these are cascading to their reports
Ensure manufacturing environments are brand appropriate (i.e. positive, reassuring, energetic, encouraging, educational, welcoming, and focused on continual improvement)
Lead training initiatives for team member development, including challenging of SOPs
Ensure operational priorities, processes and procedures are communicated and understood by the Site Management team and follow-up on effective execution
Ensure the cost-effective manufacturing of quality pharma-grade product meeting all cGMP and GAP standards
Ensure compliance with all manufacturing processes and SOPs, review cultivation and processing metrics and work to improve efficiency. Ensure quality assurance standards and metrics are maintained
Oversight of all controlled substance inventory accuracy and variance corrections
Responsible for and working closely with all key stakeholders in the planning and execution of local CAPEX projects
Partner with Quality and Compliance to monitor and maintain proper controls with all federal/state regulations
Ultimate responsibility for execution of quality initiatives (both QA and QC) to reduce non-conformances
Develop protocols with bill of materials and standard costing for effective and accurate COGS/Margins
Manage OPEX activities and initiatives to continually improve income from operations margins
Champion Lean Six Sigma initiatives to foster efficiencies throughout the operation and create continual improvement through operational excellence
Maintain a daily site strong presence to effectively coach and support cultivation, processing, and support function teams
Works proactively and independently with innovation and passion to deliver on self-defined and external goals
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain or related field required.
Supervised 20 or more team members in an FDA controlled, SQF or cGMP production environment
Involvement in the cannabis industry not required, but a plus. However, experience in a highly regulated industry strongly desired
3+ years’ experience in manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and logistics required
Ability to work efficiently in data systems and building metrics within Excel and other software systems
A high-touch, credible, hands on, visible leader with instant credibility and track record of inspiring teams
Demonstrated track record in team building and driving operational efficiencies
Lean manufacturing or six sigma knowledge desired
Outstanding people skills, organizational skills and a passionate leadership style
Team player with the ability to gain consensus through collaboration and open dialogue
Strong public speaking and presentation skills
Start-up experience a plus, and ability to manage within a fast-paced, chaotic, and ever-changing environment required
A sense of urgency, high energy, and hands-on approach
A proven track record of building a culture of safety with a manufacturing organization
Ability to pass a background check. Current Driver’s license required
